SPS official Dusan Bajatovic says that the opposition in Serbia is “panicking” in fear of the new government’s success. The Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) official said that the political Right in Serbia was panicking because it its popularity would wane if the Serbia government showed that it was capable of defending Kosovo and developing the national economy at the same time. SPS: Opposition “panicking” “The Serbian Right, as it once flirted with clericalism and chauvinism, now flirts with national demagogy and is looking to stir emotions. They need to come out before citizens with concrete ideas, concrete results, not just chaos in the streets,” Bajatovic said. He called on all parties to reach an agreement on the main goals of the Serbian community. In an interview with NIN magazine, Bajatovic said that the citizens would come down on those parties that had rejected national reconciliation at the next elections. “We all need reconciliation…especially at this moment in time when it looks as if there are no strategies,” the SPS official stressed. Bajatovic said that the formation of the new government had been made possible by political reconciliation between the SPS and Democratic Party (DS), which, he said, was the first step towards national reconciliation and a consensus on issues that the government and opposition would stand behind. He said that he was convinced that the SPS’s work in government would profile the party as a modern party of the Left, and that citizens would react positively to that. “I am convinced that people will realize that the SPS has a vision, and our vision is to look to the future, not the past. And that is why am convinced that we will not only keep the majority of our old voters, but that we will gain many more new ones to boot,” Bajatovic predicted.
