The SPS refusal to take over Belgrade with the DS means the end of the Cvetkovic cabinet, an opposition politician says. Liberal-Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic said in an interview today that unless an SPS-DS led local government is formed in Belgrade, the recently elected state cabinet headed by Mirko Cvetkovic "will have to be reshuffled", where the LDP "would take its part of responsibility". LDP eyes spot in Cvetkovic cabinet? He also told the daily Blic that "the irresponsible behavior on the part of the SPS" makes the LDP "lose patience". "Their desire is to sit on two chairs – both in Kostunica's lap in Belgrade and in Tadic's lap on the state level. This has brought the country to a crisis, rightfully unnerving the SRS, causing the blockade of parliament, postponing the SAA ratification and many other things," Jovanovic complained to the newspaper. He believes that for all these reasons, the Socialists must decide by Tuesday whether to enable for the complete local government in the capital to be formed, including electing the new mayor, or to have Belgrade face new elections. "If the DS is ready to prolong the agony for a month by electing only the Belgrade assembly president, the LDP will not agree to that. If the SPS does not accept the LDP support, then they should seek it from citizens in new elections," said Jovanovic. He added that his party has offered the Democrats support in implementing that part of its manifest that can be realized without its participation in the city government, namely, the beginning of a process of elimination of partisanship and politicization from the local rule, "in order to make Belgrade closer to citizens that to the parties which have usurped it". As for the state politics, Jovanovic said he believes Serbia's recalled ambassadors should very quickly return to those countries that have recognized Kosovo Albanians' unilateral independence – something he says he has demanded from the moment they returned to Belgrade.
