United Serbia (JS) leader Dragan Markovic Palma says he urges putting together a new government with the Democratic Party (DS). If that does not come to pass, the junior partner of the Socialists (SPS) in a pre-election coalition said Thursday evening in Belgrade, "we will have new elections, and this is the definitive stand of the JS." JS: With Democrats, or new elections "Without the three United Serbia MPs and two MPs of [the Bosniak List for European Sandzak leader] Sulejman Ugljanin, there will be no new government, because there will be a tie, the DS-JS and ethnic minorities will have 125 MPs, same as the other side," Markovic said. A majority of 126 votes is needed in Serbia's 250-seat parliament to elect government. "What the Socialist Party of Serbia will say to this is for them to decide, but this is the definitive stand of the JS," he said. Markovic reiterated his party's stance that negotiations with the DSS should be terminated, since he wanted a coalition with the Democrats, "in view of the fact that the DS position suits the United Serbia manifesto". He added that SPS leader Ivica Dacic was told about this decision in a telephone conversation, and announced that he would inform his coalition partners, the SPS and PUPS, about all this on Sunday, June 8.
