Zarko Korac says the acting Belgrade mayor took responsibility for the reaction of the Radicals by calling the first city assembly session for July 14. The Social Democratic Union (SDU) president told B92 that the Serb Radical Party (SRS) candidate for mayor, Aleksandar Vucic, will have a hard time earning the support of Belgrade citizens if he does become mayor. "Acting mayor responsible for SRS reaction" Still, Korac, allied with the Liberal-Democrats (LDP), thinks that the announced protests of the SRS-DSS-SPS coalition are legitimate. According to democratic rules, soon after the formation of a majority, a meeting of the city assembly must be called, Korac reminded. The new Belgrade coalition has sharply criticized acting Mayor Zoran Alimpic (DS) and his decision to postpone the meeting until mid-July. Today, Korac added that it is also likely correct to say that, if an agreement is reached on the state level, changes on the local level are possible. However, even if the local majority elected its mayor now, in two months' time – when the deadline for the government talks expires – that could change as well, he said. Korac's comments come after speculation that the capital city coalition, forged last week, could unravel if the Socialists decide to join a Democrat-led cabinet. The SDU leaderHHThe SDThT said that in Serbia, two people are playing a game of chess - Boris Tadic and Vojislav Kostunica – while “seven and a half million angry onlookers are following their moves". “If this stalemate continues, when there will be elections in September or October, and then it would be interest to see who turns out to vote at all,” he said. Kostunica has more influence on SPS president Ivica Dacic, Tadic on United Serbia leader Dragan Markovic, while PUPS president Jovan Krkobabic is "left and right”, and that, according to Korac, amounts to " a classic stalemate".
