Serb police officers boycotting the work of the KPS will not be fired, but will not receive their salaries, the KPS has decided. Kosovo Police Service (KPS) spokesman Veton Elsani told Kosovo journalists that the three-month suspension had expired, and that at the suggestion of KPS headquarters, Serb police officers would stop receiving salaries starting today, but would remain in service until a new decision was taken. KPS extends suspensions for Serbs Elshani could not specify what the new decision would be, and added that it was up to KPS Commander Sermet Ahmeti. A total of 270 Serb workers have been boycotting the KPS’s command chain since Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence, though they do want to remain under the direct command of UNMIK police. Kosovo Minister Slobodan Samardzic talked to the suspended Serb KPS officers during a recent visit to the province, and informed them that the Serbian government was waiting for the three-month deadline to pass, after which the Serbian Interior Ministry would assume responsibility for them. 710 Serbs worked at the KPS prior to the boycott.
