According to Novi Sad daily Dnevnik, the EU Council of Ministers will once again confirm that Serbia can accelerate its path towards EU candidate status. Dnevnik claims to have seen the draft document prepared for a meeting that will take place next Monday. “EU to reiterate support for Serbia” In accordance with the decision made at the previous meeting of EU ministers held in Luxemburg on April 29 when the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) was signed, the ministers are expected to stress that “Serbia will rapidly progress down its European path, including receiving candidate status, provided that it meets the necessary conditions”. The already prepared document states that the EU Council of Ministers “is pleased with the peaceful, orderly election process in Serbia that was carried out in a free and democratic manner.” “The Council welcomes the strongly expressed support for the pro-EU parties. The Council hopes that a new government with a clear European agenda will be formed soon, and that it will immediately get constructively involved in the process of applying the SAA”, the document concludes.
