During the Nineties, Slobodan Milosevic ordered the murders of his opponents, claims Special Operations Unit (JSO) member Nenad Ilic. In a statement to police in April 2003, Ilic described “how [JSO commander] Milorad Ulemek had recounted in detail a meeting between senior State Security (DB) officials and Milosevic where it was decided to kill his political opponents,” writes daily Blic. "Milosevic ordered opponents' murders" The text claims that “the statement given by Ilic was not used at any trial, and the public has not yet been made aware of its existence.” The JSO member told the District Court that “after carrying out the staged incident on the Ibarska highway where four members of the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO) were killed, he had asked Ulemek why the JSO had had to carry out that assignment.” He then quoted the then JSO commander’s reply: “Since you’re asking, I’ll tell you. After the end of the NATO aggression, a meeting was held attended by Slobodan Milosevic, [former State Security Chief] Radomir Markovic, Milan Radonjic, Milorad Bracanovic and myself. After two hours, Milosevic said, ‘Listen, commander, we’ve been speaking for two hours, and you know it has to be done,” states Blic, quoting Ilic’s statement in April 2003.
