PM Vojislav Kostunica says Serbia will not just let the issue of the Hague acquittal of Ramush Haradinaj go away. "Judging by everything we know, the EU believes that the right answer is to keep quiet on the decision to set Ramush Haradinaj free, and that the best course of action is to pretend that nothing had happened," Kostunica, who is also the leader of the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), said in a statement today. Kostunica: Serbia to insist on Haradinaj issue According to him, with the decision to set Haradinaj, an ethnic Albanian and former leader of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army, KLA, free, the Hague Tribunal has "erased the difference between crime and innocence", in this way "justifying his horrible crimes". Kostunica added that Serbia does not accept to have "crimes against innocent Serbs committed by Haradinaj justified, as a subject of media interest that lasts a couple of days". "Since, as far as the EU is concerned, the Hague Tribunal is the beacon of European values, we must now, in a responsible manner, ascertain with the EU whether an institution that has issued a certificate of innocence to a war criminal deserves to be called a court at all," the premier continued. According to him, the EU must now say whether after this dark decision, the Tribunal still remains a beacon of European values and the highest measure in determining the European standards in the process of European integrations. The condition Brussels put before Serbia for signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement (EU) is full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. "Serbia has the full right to persevere until the end in [demands to] ascertain whether the Hague Tribunal can be considered a legitimate court, since this is what Serbia owes to the innocent victims, who have been humiliated with Haradinaj's acquittal," Kostunica concluded.
