Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic says the election campaign should focus on economic issues. The G17 Plus leader said that the majority of citizens would see that it was clear that you cannot live and feed your family on empty myths. Dinkic: Campaign should focus on economy He told daily Blic that the May 11 elections were a referendum where the electorate would vote for or against Serbia’s EU membership, and for an economically strong Serbia or for isolation. The “For a European Serbia - Boris Tadic“ list, headed by the Democratic Party (DS) and G17 Plus, will hold its first major election rally in Uzice on Monday. A lot of stress will be put on the country’s economic development, including a series of measures that will enable citizens to have more work and higher wages, and will preserve the value of the dinar, Dinkic said. “The basic theme of our campaign is a stronger economy—more work and higher wages. The wage of every individual in the coming period directly depends on the European integration process,” the economy minister stressed. He said that cooperation with “such an anti-European Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and New Serbia (NS) parties is absolutely impossible.” “With such abrupt u-turns, open opposition to European integration, public calls to boycott foreign banks and shopping centers, the DSS-NS have become more radical and retrograde than the Radicals themselves,” Dinkic claimed, adding that Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica had changed a lot, and was starting to sound a lot like Velimir Ilic, to whom, for some reason, he had delegated the position of economic ideologist and coalition leader. “The DSS-NS, in their struggle for survival, have renounced legalism, and are no longer fussy when it comes to chalking up cheap political points for themselves. It all looks rather pathetic and sad,” the G17 Plus leader surmised. They have formed a pact with the Radicals, and they’re demonstrating this very clearly every day, he said, adding that the government had collapsed as a result of the Serb Radical Party (SRS)-DSS-NS resolution to halt progress towards EU integration, which was why he did not see his party in any new coalitions with these parties. “People of false morals are leading the SRS, who openly lie when they are not able to respond to their superior political opponents. Their masks will be removed in this campaign because they haven’t dared publish their property information,” Dinkic said, adding that Radical officials Tomislav Nikolic, Aleksandar Vucic and others had been moving into huge flats while bombs rained down on the people of Serbia.
