Hans-Gert Poettering says he wants to use his influence to help Serbia sign the SAA as soon as possible. “It’s in our interest to sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) as soon as possible. I will use my influence in order to make this happen,” the European Parliament president said after meeting with Parliamentary Speaker Oliver Dulic. EP president backs SAA signing Poettering said that the EU “will never forget what dictator Slobodan Milosevic did,” but that it wanted to turn to the future. He said that he did not want to get involved in the Serbian election campaign, but that he hoped that the results of the election would offer the country a chance for further European integration. Poettering said that Serbia was in “a very difficult situation,” and that the EU was ready to help. Dulic said that he wanted the European integration process to be sped up and in this context, invited Poettering to visit Serbia, which he accepted.
