The situation in the Kosovska Mitrovica court has met with condemnation of the Albanian leadership in Pristina. After meeting with the head of EULEX, Pieter Feith, Kosovo's prime minister, Hashim Thaci, called on UNMIK to "establish control over the building as soon as possible". Kosovo: Albanians want UNMIK to act over court Serb judicial workers, thrown out of their premises in 1999, have Friday after 20 days of protests entered the building, and are demanding to be given the right to work from their offices. B92's reporter in Pristina says that Thaci warned that his government "will not tolerate incidents, no matter where they come from". "Under no circumstances, not in a single instance, in no way will we allow space for the creation of any hooligan groups, whatever their nationality, to threaten public order and peace", he was quoted. UNMIK is now under pressure to "act more decisively", observers say, while Feith, who heads the mission which is having legal trouble taking over precisely from UNMIK, confirmed this with his statement. "The prime minister and myself expect UNMIK to establish order in [Kosovska] Mitrovica and make sure the building is under UN control," he said, and called on the Serbs there "not to undertake violent acts". "I would appeal to the perpetrators to desist from further violence and to respect the UN mandate," the EU mission chief said. No violence or injuries were reported in or around the courthouse since Friday. As for EULEX itself, which temporarily withdrew from the Serb-inhabited north of the province, another of its leaders, Yves de Kermabo, says that the deployment there will continue. Serbs in the north, Belgrade and Moscow reject the EU mission as illegal, and not based on UN Resolution 1244. Russia has also repeatedly warned NATO and UN forces in the province not to use violence to force the Serbs there to comply. But now Kermabo, who was visiting Pristina, said that the mission, which will be in charge of police, judiciary and customs, "will be operational at the end of the 120 days period".
