Kraljevo-Zvečan railway line reopened after 9 years

After nearly 9 years, a train from central Serbia arrived today in Zvecan railway station in northern Kosovo. The train's arrival marked the reopening of Serbian Railways’ Kraljevo-Zvecan line. Kraljevo-Zvecan railway line reopened after 9 years Coordinator of the Kosovo Polje railway junction Zoran Bogavac told Tanjug that the freight train that arrived in the north of Kosovo this morning had brought wheat for the Kosovo market. "No agreement has been reached between UNMIK representatives and Serbian Railways. We expect them to contact us in order to reach an agreement on further cooperation," said Bogavac. He also said that the population in the south of Kosovo had requested today's cargo. According to him, passenger railway communication with Serbia has yet to be reestablished. At a meeting in Belgrade several days ago, Serbian Railways asked UNMIK representatives to allow the company's trains to run from central Serbia to Zvecan, but UNMIK rejected the request. Owing to the ongoing dispute, the train from Kosovo Polje once again, for the ninth consecutive day, failed to reach Lesak, the final station in northern Kosovo. The Kosovo Polje – Lesak line is one of the securest links for Serbs in central Kosovo with the north of the province and central Serbia.

Coordinator of the Kosovo Polje railway junction Zoran Bogavac told Tanjug that the freight train that arrived in the north of Kosovo this morning had brought wheat for the Kosovo market.
