The government said last night that the president, prime minister and speaker agreed on a united state policy. According to reports, agreement was reached on the necessity of leading a united state and national policy in protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity. Gov't overcomes crisis, agrees on united policy A statement reads that it was established that a threat exists from an illegal declaration of Kosovo independence, and that for this reason all state institutions have to take the necessary decisions and measures to annul all illegal acts. Boris Tadic, Vojislav Kostunica and Oliver Dulic agreed to hold a cabinet meeting on Thursday where a decision will be adopted to annul all illegal acts on the part of the temporary self-government institutions in Kosovo declaring independence, that will come into force should that illegal act take place. The government will pass this decision on to the parliament for procedure and adoption. It has also been agreed to hold a meeting of the National Security Council today to consider action plans in the event of an independence declaration. Democratic Party whip Nada Kolundzija told Beta that the statement from the leadership confirmed the readiness of state institutions to show responsibility at a moment when a scenario was being hatched that would be detrimental to state interests. The G17 Plus party will make its thoughts on the meeting’s conclusions known after talks with its coalition partners. “We have nothing to say until the parliament and government make their opinions known first. First, we need to speak to our coalition partners,” said a party statement. New Serbia say that they are satisfied with the agreement and said that they “strongly support” a constructive agreement. Serb Radical Party (SRS) deputy leader Tomislav Nikolic said that it was good that an agreement had been reached about adopting a united policy to protect Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that the agreement had come late. Nikolic told Tanjug that the disunity within the governing coalition and the institutional crisis “had practically opened the doors to Kosovo independence.” The SRS deputy leader said that the parties could reach the unity that the country so badly requires at the parliamentary session on Thursday. Vojislav Kostunica, Boris Tadic (FoNet, archive) Kostunica: Unity is most important Prime Minister Kostunica said today that all state institutions now had as their main aim to display full state and national unity in defending Kosovo ahead of the province’s declaration of independence. He told Beta that “at this moment in time, that is the most important message to our people in Kosovo.“ “We’ve decided that the government will annul in advance any illegal acts of unilateral declaration of this bogus country on Serbian territory. We will not allow such a creation to exist, not even for a moment, rather it must be declared null and void the very moment it is illegally declared under the leadership of convicted terrorists,“ said the prime minister. Kostunica emphasized that “Serbia has strongly resisted all external pressure, blackmail, bribes and rewards to justify in any way legal oppression and become an accomplice to a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and Resolution 1244.“ “That way, we’ve preserved what’s most important – that under international law and all laws, Serbia and Serbia alone retains its right to Kosovo, regardless of an illegal and subsequent unilateral declaration of independence,“ he asserted. The prime minister said that “no-one will ever be able to deny us that right because now – at the crucial moment – we’ve not renounced it, and nor have we given any agreement or signature to Kosovo's independence.“
