Officials unanimously rejected the possibility of EU membership being tied into recognition of Kosovo independence. Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said the conclusions of the EU summit in Brussels were unacceptable and offensive. The prime minister said that it was unacceptable that there would be no further negotiations and that recognizing a unilateral declaration of independence constituted a breach of the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 1244. Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic and Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic announced that conditioning Serbian EU accession on recognition of Kosovo independence was unacceptable.
