The Republic Election Commission (RIK) adopted deadlines last night for conducting the January presidential elections. RIK also adopted guidelines for implementing the Presidential Election Law and passed a decision on the forms for nominating candidates. Election commission confirms deadlines Nominations and candidacy announcements can be submitted until midnight on December 30. Potential candidates must submit a legally certified petition with 10,000 signatures from Serbian citizens supporting their candidacy. Candidates will be announced within 24 hours of submission of their applications, provided all conditions have been met, while the deadline for confirming the list of candidates is midnight on January 4. The list of candidates is due to be announced on January 5. The total number of voters is expected to be published in the Official Serbian Gazette after January 17, the deadline for registering. At the RIK meeting, the Democratic Party of Serbia’s (DSS) representative in RIK Vladimir Galic asked for “agreement” to be reached as to whether Parliamentary Speaker Oliver Dulic had violated Constitutional Law in calling the elections, but withdrew his request after a short debate.
