Following the public dispute over Delta, President Boris Tadic has told B92 that no individual can be above the law. Tadic said that equality of citizens in the eyes of the law was the only was that Serbia could become a democratic, European country. Tadic: No one is above law He expects the problems surrounding the Anti-Corruption Council and the Monopolies Commission, who have complained about pressure coming from Delta, to be resolved in line with the law, to show that Serbia’s legal system resembles that of Europe. “My position is more than principled. No-one can be above the law,“ the president stressed. “If I don’t seek a special position as president of Serbia, I won’t let anyone else be above the law – not civil servants, nor those who work for the state in its institutions, nor big company bosses, nor ordinary citizens,“ he said. The Anti-Corruption Council last night sent the government a letter proposing adoption of a code of conduct for ministers, preventing them from commenting on the work of other institutions in public. “I think the government should take a firm line, that ministers should refrain from participation in private celebrations or manifestations organized by big companies, as this just adds to the impression that their capital is financing the leading parties,“ said the Council’s letter. The Council feels that Delta’s decision to launch legal proceedings against Council President Verica Barac is a way of concealing certain important details surrounding the company’s takeover of C Market. To recap, Delta Vice-President Milka Forcan has officially resigned from her post as president of the Council for Promotion of Serbia. Forcan said that she respected the decision of the Republic Committee for Solving Conflicts of Interest, although, she claimed, their explanation was rather confusing. Boris Tadic (FoNet, archive)
