Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel is in Kosovo today after a one-day working visit to Belgrade Wednesday. He and Serbian officials discussed bilateral relations, solving the status of Kosovo and the western Balkans' integration with the EU, of which Slovenia takes over as chair on January 1, 2008, Beta news agency reported. Rupel visits Belgrade, proceeds to Pristina Rupel's hosts, President Boris Tadic, Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, reiterated Serbia's dedication to European integration, readiness for full cooperation with the Hague tribunal and for finding a compromise solution for Kosovo. After the meeting with Jeremic, the Slovenian foreign minister provided assurances that Slovenia would not make unilateral moves regarding Kosovo and that it would coordinate its stand with those of other members of the European Union. Tadic told Rupel that Serbia wished to continue its European integration swiftly, to "work on completing cooperation with the Hague tribunal," and for the state's negotiating team for Kosovo to constructively participate in the negotiations in order to find a solution that is acceptable for both sides. Kostunica said in talks with Rupel that the unilateral recognition of the independence of Kosovo would represent "the forced abolition of Resolution 1244, which was passed by the United Nations." In Pristina today, Rupel will have talks with UNMIK chief Joachim Ruecker, Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu and Premier Agim Ceku. They will exchange views about the future status of Kosovo, about the current situation ahead of the November 17 elections, while Rupel will also visit Slovenian troops stationed in Kosovo. Rupel's hosts, President Boris Tadić, Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica and Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić, reiterated Serbia's dedication to European integration, readiness for full cooperation with the Hague tribunal and for finding a compromise solution for Kosovo.
