Belgrade Mayor Nenad Bogdanovic, who passed away on Thursday, was buried today in Belgrade's New Cemetery. Earlier Sunday, a commemorative ceremony took place in the Belgrade City Hall, while his body lay in state in St. Marko's Church from 10 a.m. Belgrade mayor laid to rest The memorial service began at 11 a.m. and the funeral procession of several thousand citizens and friends then made its way to the cemetery. The City Assembly declared September 30 a day of morning in Serbia's capital city. President Boris Tadic told the gathered mourners that they were saying their good-byes to the man, but not his legacy. He described Bogdanovic, his friend and party colleague, as just, strict and hard working, someone who glorified work. Bogdanovic believed in Belgrade, a city like no other in the Balkans, the president said. Earlier today, Deputy Mayor Radmila Hrustanovic said the late mayor gave Belgrade back its dignity, and gave hope to its residents that the dignified life is possible in our capital. Other close associates of Bogdanovic spoke at the commemoration, including Municipal Assmbly President Milorad Perovic, City Manager Bojan Stanojevic, Vojvodina Executive Council President Bojan Pajtic, the widow of late Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, Ruzica Djindjic, and SANU President Nikola Hajdin. President Tadic, Speaker Oliver Dulic cabinet ministers Dragan Sutanovac, Milan Markovic, Dusan Petrovic, Slobodan Milosavljevic, Mirko Cvetkovic and Tomica Milosavljevic were also present.
