The infrastructure minister says he will ask the government to publish the Horgos-Pozega highway deal in its entirety. Velimir Ilic added he would make the request at the next cabinet session on August 23. Government to publish highway deal “Journalists will be granted access to the concession contract on Monday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the seat of government,” Ilic told a news conference Friday, adding that reporters will be prohibited from taking pictures or taking the document out of the government’s premises. After a series of questions where journalists wanted to know why it took months for the contract to be published, Ilic pithily replied, "Because I fancied it that way." He then added he would also ask for the concession contract to be posted on the government website. “I don’t want this project, which represents one of the largest and most significant infrastructure projects in Serbia, to be tarnished in any way,” Ilic stressed. “I assure you that every bit of the deal is in line with the law,” Ilic told the press, recalling that parliament had agreed to the concession and had given the green light to all details of the tender procedure and the contract itself. The infrastructure minister’s move comes as a surprise, given that his ministry filed a request with the Supreme Court on May 22 to annul the request of Rodoljub Sabic, the public information trustee, calling for the ministry to make public the contract for concessions it had signed for the construction of the Horgos-Pozega highway. The contract was signed on March 30 by Ilic and the Spanish-Austrian consortium FCC-Alpina. His way or the highway: Velimir Ilic (FoNet, archive)
