Self-Determination protest ends peacefully
Calling for a referendum, 600 Albanians marched through Priština, lobbing rolls of toilet paper at the parliament and carrying effigies of the interim president and prime minister.“Priština negotiating team knows only the language of dialogue with Belgrade. They brought us Ahtisaari’s package set to partition Kosovo,” protest leader Glauk Konjufca told the crowd.
"We recognize only one language, the language of the referendum and the people's will for freedom and independence," he said.
Protesters raised a flag of Albania in the center of Priština and intoned the Albanian anthem, stressing that these were the only national emblems they recognized.
This act was meant to show protesters’ dissatisfaction with the ongoing competition for Kosovo’s national symbols.
Konjufca added that Self-Determination movement would continue with protests “until their goal was achieved.”
The movement opposes any negotiations on Kosovo’s status, stressing that "it was up to people in Kosovo to decide on the status by means of self-determination."
Movement leader Albin Kurti was jailed on February 10 after a mass protest in Priština when two persons died in clashes with UNMIK police
