Speaker: No-confidence motion next week
During yesterday’s session the Parliament elected Rodoljub Šabić as trustee for public information, and Saša Janković as ombudsman.Janković told B92 that by his appointment the democratic authorities in Serbia "sent the message of rediness to provide additional support for civic rights protection within state bodies.”
He explained that ombudsman’s duty was not to offer citizens legal advice and support.
“Citizens have to try and realize their rights in regular legal proceedings first. The ombudsman is there to intervene in case civic rights get violated or professional negligence of state officials is at work,” Janković said.
Lawmakers of the ruling coalition, comprised of the Democratic Party, Democratic Party of Serbia and G17 Plus, voted in favor of Šabić and Janković’s appointment, while Serb Radical Party and Liberal Democratic Party MPs voted against.
The Parliament also adopted amendments to the laws on property tax, value added tax, customs tariffs and tax administration.
