Parliament to discuss information access

Half of lawmakers must vote in favor of the ombudsman's appointment. An ombudsman can be elected twice to the position, and if he or she is elected twice, the mandate exipres seven years after the initial election.

The parliament is also expected to discuss the proposed changes for the State Auditing Institution Law.

The changes in the three laws proposed by 122 parliamentary officials of the ruling parties need to be adopted in order for the parliament to fulfill the obligations of article five of the Law on Implementing the new Constitution.  The required changes involve electing an ombudsman and a council for auditing institutions as well as enabling citizens to inform themselves freely.
