Serbia, EU talks resume in ten days

President Tadić said he was satisfied with the fact that Serbia’s EU talks would pick up where they were left off last year, stressing that cooperation with the Hague Tribunal remained a precondition for further steps in the process of European integration.

He pledged the new government’s commitment to fully meet the remaining Hague demands, adding that it was not merely Serbia’s international obligation.

“We must finish that job for our own sake and for the security of our citizens,” Tadić said.

Speaking of the SAA talks between the EU and Serbia, Rehn said that he hoped the technical negotiations are  finalized in a couple of months, while achieving full Hague cooperation, including arresting and handing over of Ratko Mladić and other war crimes fugitives, which must precede the conclusion of the Stabilization and Association Agreement.

When asked whether Serbia was working on apprehending Mladić, Tadić said he "could not confirm whether the former Bosnian Serb general was hiding in Serbia."

“We are aware of our obligations and are doing everything that is in our power to produce results. We will arrest them as soon as possible, but we lack proof that they are indeed in Serbia,” Tadić added.

Following the official portion of the meeting, Tadić and Rehn attended the UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying match between Finland and Serbia, which saw a victory of the Serbian side.

Following the match Tadić told B92 that the game was a good chance to "mix political meeting with an immense pleasure."
