Slovakia: UN must determine Kosovo status

Slovakia’s foreign minister Jan Kubiš told the meeting the EU must secure American support for its position and make it clear that the province’s status can only be resolved with a UN resolution.

Agencies report from Luxembourg Czech foreign minister Karel Schwarzenberg as saying this initiative received “wide support” among the EU countries.

The Beta news agency reported earlier Monday that the EU ministerial troika planned to meet with Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and "convince him Russia should accept Martti Ahtisaari’s plan for Kosovo".

Russia’s ambassador to Serbia Alexandar Alexeyev, however, told B92 that Lavrov would not back from his Kosovo statements made in Belgrade last week.
