“Moscow prepares its own Kosovo resolution”

“Lavrov reiterated that Russia was defending fundamental European and democratic principles by insisting on the preservation of Serbia’s territorial integrity and demanding maximum rights for Serbs in Kosovo with full protection of churches and monasteries,” Drašković said.

“Russia has devised its strategy wisely, and if the U.S., Great Britain and France presented the Contact Group with a draft resolution based on Ahtisaari’s plan, Russia would table its own resolution founded on the principles which it advocated,” Drašković argued.

According to him, Russia’s move would make the UN Security Council Western member states either reject the principles, or agree to draft the resolution in cooperation with Russia.

“The third option would be to appoint a new mediator in the Kosovo talks,” Drašković concluded.
