Greek minister urges EU unity on Kosovo

However, Bakoyannis would not speculate on the province's status, saying that she prefered to wait for the Security Council to make a decision, stressing the need for unanimity on the part of the EU and the Security Council.

Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica told Bakoyannis that the arrival of a Security Council mission next week was an important event, adding that its aim will be to confirm that basic human rights are violated in Kosovo, the agency said.

A statement from Koštunica's office said that he also singled out the need to launch a new round of negotiations on the Kosovo status issue with a new and impartial international mediator.

In his conference with Bakoyannis, president Boris Tadić said that the mission needs to visit Serb enclaves in Kosovo, evaluate the situation there and determine whether the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 are being upheld.

"Tadić emphasized that Serbia has a single national policy when it comes to Kosovo and that it will resort to all available diplomatic and legal means to defend its legitimate national interests, territorial integrity, and sovereignty," said a news release from his office.
