“I think that the Russians could play a positive role in the process and prevent a hasty settlement of Kosovo’s status,” he said.

"Kosovo’s precedent could backfire in Russia and China,” Schlesinger told the VOA.

He reminded that the negotiations between Belgrade and Serbia that lasted 14 months were far from being intense.

“They were often held only once a month, as the two sides rarely had any opportunity to hold genuine bilateral talks,” Schlesinger concluded.
