Following yesterday’s session, the state negotiating team issued a statement saying that the amended Ahtisaari proposal was unacceptable for Serbia as not a single amendment posed by Belgrade pertaining to the preservation of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity had been accepted. The team members informed caucus chiefs of the ongoing negotiations on the final status of Kosovo. Democratic Party (DS) caucus leader Dušan Petrović said that Serbia will continue its diplomatic struggle to defend the interests of the state and the people living in Kosovo.
G17 plus caucus chief Verica Kalanović told B92 that it was agreed to assemble the National Parliament immediately after Saturday’s meeting in Vienna.
“All caucus chiefs have agreed that the Parliament must convene after March 10 and before Martti Ahtisaari submits his modified proposal to the UN Security Council. The Parliament will elect the negotiating team with a sole task of improving Serbia’s diplomatic position ahead of the UN SC session and talking to the Council’s member states to that end,” Kalanović added.
Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Čedomir Jovanović believes that Serbia needs to adopt a new state policy for Kosovo and to accept the "real situation in the province." He said the Resolution on Kosovo passed by the Parliament ahead of the talks in Vienna cornered Serbia's team into a dead-end.
“Ahtisaari’s document is not Serbia’s defeat, rather the result of a political concept that ignored the reality, insisting on abiding by principles reminiscent of Milošević’s times,” Jovanović argued.
