Team to investigate 17,000 Srebrenica suspects
The list of suspects was submitted in 2005 by a special Bosnian Serb government commission that was established two years earlier under international pressure. It was designed to investigate the circumstances of the massacre of up to 8,000 Muslim men and boys that occurred after Bosnian Serb troops overran the town in 1995 - the worst slaughter of civilians in Europe since World War II.
The panel produced a list of 19,473 members of various Bosnian Serb armed forces and civilians who allegedly took direct or indirect part in the massacre — including logistics people and drivers. Of those, 17,074 had been identified by name.
The list has never been published, but it was submitted to the state prosecutor's office.
According to Milišić, the organizational part of the investigation will begin in September and foreign investigators will be involved in the work of the department.
