Del Ponte satisfied with Bosnia’s cooperation
“I informed the Security Council and the EU about the good cooperation of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Republika Srpska,” Del Ponte said after meeting the new High Representative, Miroslav Lajčak.She described the arrest of Bosnian Serb general Zdravko Tolimir at the end of May as “very important” but added, “In my view, full cooperation is all of my four fugitives.”
Del Ponte believes General Ratko Mladić is hiding in Serbia while the whereabouts of Radovan Karadžić remain unknown.
The other two fugitives sought by the court are a former Croatian Serb leader, Goran Hadžić, and Stojan Župljanin, also an ethnic Serb.
Lajčak agreed on the importance of cooperation with the tribunal, based in The Hague, recalling that it was one of the key preconditions for the possible admission of Bosnia into the EU.
“Cooperation with The Hague tribunal is of crucial importance for the future as this is one of the key provisions for the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union,” Lajčak noted.
Del Ponte had come to Sarajevo a day ahead of the 12th anniversary commemoration of the fall of Srebrenica.
She is expected to take part at a ceremony at which the bodies of 465 newly identified victims of the massacre will be buried at a memorial center.
