UK: Massive immigration fraud exposed

London’s Daily Mail reports that this fraud was uncovered when many of the so-called refugees requested that their families be allowed to immigrate as well.

Officials discovered that all of the family members were from Albania, not Kosovo.  Further investigation revealed the scale of the fraud.

While the fate of those suspected of having lied to obtain citizenship is not yet clear, a spokesman at the Home Office told reporters, “Where we can prove fraud we will strip individuals of their citizenship and remove them from the country.”

Letters from the office warn that those convicted of fraud could face a fine of GBP 5,000 or three months jail time.

Genuine refugees from Kosovo are threatened by the investigation, however, it is still not clear how many will be affected.

One Kosovo refugee said, "It's been an open secret for years that thousands of Albanians were getting refugee status here by saying they were from Kosovo. It used to be the fast track route into Britain and lots of people took it.”
