Srebrenica residents delay migration

The decision came following Saturday's late meeting with Bosnian political leaders who appealed to Srebrenica returnees to remain in their homes.

Srebrenica townspeople will continue to insist on their request for Srebrenica partition from the Republic of Srpska (RS).

Srebrenica Initiative Board president Čamil Duraković underscored t"hat it was logical Srebrenica couldn’t become a state district over night, but that the issue of Srebrenica and partition request had to be addressed in the process of Bosnian Constitutional reforms."

Duraković had said earlier that "the plan for economic and social development and restoration proposed by RS government is only an attempt to dissuade the townspeople from their requests for partition and special status of Srebrenica."

Saturday’s meeting was attended by Deputy High Representative in Bosnia Raffi Gregorian who pledged that the OHR would take an active role in Srebrenica issue, which dded a new twist to the case.

Munira Subašić, chairwomen of the Movement of Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves, said  before the decision to postpone the emigration, that several hundred Srebrenica residents would head in Sarajevo’s direction Monday.

“We will launch emigration from Srebrenica on Monday, as we still insist on our demands and don’t plan to ever give up. We cannot let the people who killed aur children be in charge of our town,” she said.

According to her, Srebrenica townspeople no longer believed in empty promises made by Bosnian Federation and Republic of Srpska’s politicians.
