Striking police take case to Constitutional Court

The regulation adopted by the Serbian Government last week states that police officers can strike for no more than 30 minutes, without weapons and other police equipment.

“It is shocking that a general strike for police can be shorter than a warning strike, which lasts one hour. Our strike can last as long as a cigarette break. It looks as if we are worse than all the 'red berets' or those who tried to create a national crisis,” Vidojević said.

He said that the union will file complaints to the OSCE and international organizations for the protection of human rights.

Vidojević said that Internal Affairs Minister Dragan Jočić, even though he promised, has not scheduled a meeting with union officials.

“The strike exists, we have simply suspended it, and when we will resume the strike will depend on how the situation develops,” Vidojević said.
