Officers accused of letting criminals use army ranges, arms
A statement quoted by Beta said that the two officers are suspected of falsifying official records during 2015 and 2016 to show "fictitious achieved working hours" and of making illegal gains of over one million Serbian dinars (RSD).They are suspected of allowing "persons from the criminogenic environment, known to the public as Vucko, Sale Mutavi and Velja Nevolja, and other persons who are not members of the VS" to use the army's shooting ranges, weapons and ammunition in order to train in using firearms.
According to the statement, this went on from February until June 2016.
Aleksandar Stankovic, aka Sale Mutavi, was shot and killed in Belgrade last October, while Veljko Belivuk, aka Velja Nevolja, was arrested on suspicion that he was connected with the murder of Vlastimir Milosevic.
The Trade Union said it was "continuing to fight against illegal activities and abuses within the ranks of the Serbian Army, as promised."
The Serbian Army later issued a statement saying that the allegations had been investigated but that no evidence was found of any wrongdoing involving abuse of office or illegal financial gains, and that the Trade Union submitted no proof of their claims.
