The traces are mixed and it is difficult to precisely isolate a single DNA sample to use for comparison, Stefanovic told the Serbian Assembly's Committee on Interior Affairs.

It has been ascertained where the weapons were made, Stefanovic said, adding that further expertise was under way but that the traces from the site would make solving the case difficult.

It is unlikely that the weapons had been brought to the location coincidentally, the minister noted, adding that there were at least two or three scenarios in the case.

Stefanovic, however, said that the police will try to use "other methods" to get samples for comparison and will then try to compare them to the partial traces recovered from the weapons.

Stefanovic also said there were persons the police "believe could participate in shedding light on this event."

"We have two or three scenarios from which you can draw your conclusions about the further directions of our work, but we will not allow Serbia's security, whether it concerns the prime minister or any other person, and we will not allow our national security to be endangered," he said.

The minister added that the RPG launcher was manufactured in the former Yugoslavia "in a defense industry factory in Serbia" after which it "made its way to Doboj (in Bosnia)." The hand grenades, meanwhile, were manufactured "outside of Serbia, in some factory in the former Yugoslavia," said Stefanovic, and added that there was "no information where those had ended up after they were manufactured."
