A court in Novi Sad has found 59-year-old Mihalj Skivijan guilty of murder and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.

Man sentenced to 15 years for brutal murder - his second

The murder happened in December 2015 in a rented apartment where they lived.

Skivijan confessed to his crime during the trial, and said that on the evening of the murder, Redzepova and he "drank and argued after she arranged a meeting with 'a client'," and that he grabbed a hammer and started hitting her with it.

He then fled the scene and tried to hide in a relative's house, but was quickly arrested.

During the trial, the prosecutor said that the defendant did not express remorse, and that this was his second murder. In 2001, Skivijan murdered another woman he was in a relationship with - 33-year-old Jolika Lakatos, and subsequently spent nine years in prison.
