Commission: Intensify search for Curuvija murder suspect
"Without interfering in the independent work and supporting the independence of the judiciary, the Commission will within its legal possibilities try to, in cooperation with competent authorities, provide technical preconditions for a more efficient conduct of court proceedings - that is, to, considering a large number of witnesses that are to be be heard, ensure the technical requirements for the holding of a large number of main hearings," said Veran Matic, president of the Commission.The statement added that regarding newspaper articles about the possible pressure on witnesses by former members of the State Security Service (DS), the Commission expects the court and the prosecution to take legal measures within their jurisdiction and prevent all kinds of influences and pressures on witnesses.
"The Commission expects the responsible state authorities to intensify thier activities in the search for the accused Miroslav Kurak, who is on the run, in order to prevent the possibility of this accused and his surroundings influencing the witnesses, and thereby provide an opportunity for the judiciary to fully and properly establish all the facts," Matic said, and added:
"The possibility will also be considered of determining the place of residence and the movement of the accused, who is at large, with the help help of journalistic solidarity, through cooperation between press associations and investigative journalists, as well as through international organizations that have set before themselves highly the issue of impunity in cases of murders of journalists and of violence against them."
