Agrobanka shareholders: Government failed to resolve affair

As they said, the culprits remain unpunished because they enjoy protection from top state officials while shareholders have lost their private property.

"Investment safety that is being talked about is just a dead letter, because there are still unbreakable ties between the state and crime. The government of Serbia did not make a single step in the past four years in order to solve the Agobanka affair and compensate the shareholders," the statement said.

The shareholders also said they will continue to fight "until the final victory and the return of the seized property."

The National Bank of Serbia introduced receivership in Agrobanka in December 2011, due to the bank's inability to collect on previously approved loans.

In late May 2012, the bank was shut down and at the same time Nova Agrobanka was set up, with the state of Serbia giving EUR 85 million, while the Deposit Insurance Agency contributed with capital worth EUR 5 million.

Bankruptcy procedure for Nova Agrobanka was launched in October of the same year.

This was followed by several arrests in the context of the Agrobanka affair.
