"Commission should investigate fate of Serb journalists"

"I'd like a commission of the kind to be launched in Kosovo. I will speak very seriously about it also with with representatives of the government of Kosovo, about the Serb journalists who disappeared during the (1999) bombing. It seems to me this is a big taboo here, but it must happen here as well, because that is the only way to prove a government's democratic nature," Matic he said during a talk show broadcast on the Pristina-based RTK2 channel.

Matic added he was sure there would be obstructions during the Curuvija murder trial, that opened this week in Belgrade, and that it would last a long time, noting that he is convinced the process will show who ordered the killing, who organized it, and who issued the order to carry it out.

"We are working also on the case of murders of Milan Pantic and Dada Vujasinovic, and also of RTS employees," said Matic.

He added that he accepted the request of Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic to help in the case of the Bytyqi brothers, but under certain conditions - a different prosecutor's office, forming a team that would work with the U.S. investigating authorities that are working on a parallel investigation, and with the legal team of the Bytyqi family.

"It is very important that all those who are mentioned in this case, and they are high-ranking officials of the MUP, to totally distance themselves so as not to influence the witnesses, because there are many indications that they have influenced the witnesses. This is a very important case also as a symbol, not only for the sake of cooperation with the U.S. but also for our own sake," said Matic.
