The Interior Ministry has incinerated about 446 kilograms of illegal narcotics and other psychoactive substances at the Nikola Tesla power plant in Obrenovac.

446 kilos of drugs incinerated at power plant

The drugs - that included more than 25 kilograms of heroin and 415 kilograms of marijuana - were stored in the police administration unit (PU) in the town of Jagodina. Members of the MUP on Thursday provided security during the transport and disposal of the narcotics.

Representatives of a commission the government set up to monitor disposal of psychoactive substances was present at the Nikola Tesla power plant today, as were the company's representatives, those from the Higher Court in Sremska Mitrovica, and "external experts and Belgrade University professors," the statement added.

The MUP said that the procedure was carried out in line with legal regulations and that the drugs were examined by the Serbia's reference lab for examination of psychoactive controlled substances.

The ministry said that this was the seventh time that seized narcotics - in some cases, in storage since 1995 - have been destroyed in this way, and announced that more such procedures will be carried out in the future.
