Toddler rescued, 3 kidnappers arrested

The police caught them as they were trying to "break through" a road toll booth near Simanovci, on the Belgrade-Sid highway.

Tanjug said that the police blocked road and caught the kidnappers about 40 kilometers from Simanovci.

RTS is reporting that at the toll booth, a man attempted to run away carrying the child in his arms, but that the police stopped him. According to this source, the child was unharmed.

Blic is reporting that the kidnappers, who are "spoking to each other in Spanish" are not cooperating with the police.

B92's reporter said on Friday afternoon that the broad day kidnapping in Belgrade was carried out by two women and a man, and that the police found a fake passport for the child in their possession.

In an official statement, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic commended "the interior minister and the police" for their work today, saying he was "proud of the state's reaction" in the case.

The government office for media quoted Vucic as praising in particular the police operatives who worked to rescue the girl, "even as the criminals, running away from the police, attempted to throw her over a barrier."

Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said on Friday afternoon that the identity of the kidnappers is unknown for the time being, considering that the police are still checking whether the passports found on them are forgeries.
