“We have listed the people who left Serbia to fight in Iraq and Syria, and these people may pose a problem once they return to the country,” Dacic told reporters after a meeting of more than 60 ministers from around the world who rallied at the NATO headquarters in Brussels as part of the U.S.-led coalition.

Dacic said that these are mostly persons from the Raska District and Kosovo and Metohija, adding that Serbia will soon pass laws which will sanction people joining war conflicts abroad.

"We will punish not only those who have joined ISIL, but also all who have taken part in wars that are of no concern to Serbia," he stressed.

The coalition led by the U.S. was founded following a resolution of the UN Security Council about terrorism in Iraq and Syria, and the meeting at the NATO headquarters on Wednesday is the first of its kind, the minister pointed out.

"The plan is to get together every six months, because we all know the battle against ISIL will be long and difficult and that it will be impossible to win it from air alone," he noted.

Members of the coalition will work towards creating a unified database so ISIL could not expand its activities to the rest of the world, he said.

When asked if Serbia could become a target for terrorists because of joining the coalition, he responded that such danger always existed, "but that Islamic terrorists had so far rarely taken any action in the Western Balkans."
