EULEX: Investigation into corruption allegations
The investigation into media claims of involvement of some EULEX officials in corruption "is under way," the EU mission in Kosovo, EULEX, said on Wednesday.

EULEX: Investigation into corruption allegations
The partial removal of immunity was initiated this summer and completed before the corruption claims came out, said the statement given three weeks after the media reports about corruption among EULEX's ranks came out.EULEX points out that it has not answered each accusation individually, but that it takes its job very seriously, as well as the claims of corruption, and that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy on corruption.
The investigation started immediately after the information about potential corruption surfaced, so a joint working group of EULEX and the Kosovo authorities comprising prosecutors and police investigators was formed and started working on the case long before the first media reports on corruption were out, EULEX said.
Such investigations are complex, difficult and require time to follow up on all the leads, the EULEX remarked, stressing that all the investigators were doing their best to check all the facts.
The results of ongoing investigations and interviews are not issued to the public and confidentiality is one of the main principles in these procedures, the mission said.
EULEX will not avoid its own responsibility once the probe is completed, but should the accusations prove false, it expects the media to report on that the same way as they did when the accusations first came up, according to the statement.
EULEX Head Gabriel Meucci says he does not tolerate any criminal activity in EULEX's ranks, regardless of position or nationality.
EULEX does not push claims of criminal actions under the rug, and if there is reliable information that an employee was perhaps involved in a crime, EULEX takes the ncessary legal steps to investigate and put the said individual on trial, he noted.
Meucci commended all those who fight for justice each day and included reporters in that group, adding that it was why they deserved EULEX's utmost respect.
