"Less crime" reported in northern Kosovo

The number of criminal acts perpetrated in northern Kosovo in 2011 was some 15 percent lower than the previous year, said a Kosovo police (KPS) representative. Ergin Medic, deputy regional KPS commander, told Most TV on Monday that serious incidents took place "especially in multi-ethnic parts", including murders and escalation of protests. The area also saw fewer traffic accidents, according to this KPS representative, who explained that people died in two car crashes during last year in the north. Medic singled out illegal parking in Kosovska Mitrovica and Zvecan as a "particular problem". "This year, our plan is to work with local authorities in order to solve some burning issues.
