The trial of Bosiljka Mladic, wife of Ratko Mladic, was postponed today for procedural reasons before a Belgrade court. She has been indicted for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, found in her apartment. Mladic wife trial postponed for 2011 The trial will resume in April, 2011. The decision today came as extended charges were brought against her. According to the new indictment, which was added to the previous one where Mladic's wife is charged with illegal possession of three pistols and a rifle, she is now liable for illegal holdings of another 60 rifle bullets and 26 hunting rifle cartridges. If convicted, she could face one to ten years in prison under the Serbian criminal code. Ahead of the proceedings today, the Mladic family lawyer said he believed the trial was "politically fabricated by foreign elements". The opposition Serb Radical Party (SRS) announced that it would support Bosiljka Mladic with its activists appearing in front of the court building. The weapons were found in the Mladic family home in Belgrade during one of the searches of the apartment. “The indictment accuses her of possessing two pistols, one hunting shotgun, four revolvers and 761 bullets of different caliber,” said Prosecution spokesman Tomo Zoric. Our reporter says that unlike the war-time military leader of Bosnian Serbs, who has hiding for nearly a decade, his wife will show more courage as she appears before the court. Her lawyer Milos Saljic said that she would explain how she got the weapons found in her home. Saljic claims that the weapons belong to the Hague fugitive, and that the trial is a "typical example of pressuring the family". “For the family that's harassment and maltreatment, because they are in a situation where they can't live peacefully everyday. They (authorities) believe that that will provide pressure for Mladic to surrender,“ said the lawyer. However, the prosecution says that they are only doing their job. “The fact that the accused is the wife of Ratko Mladic has no bearing on the decision of the prosecution. When someone is found with this amount of firearms and ammunition, and if it qualifies as a crime, then the person must be prosecuted, because she committed a crime,” says Zoric.
