Gangster's extradition expected "I expect that Kalinic will be in Belgrade very soon, in the next days, and depending on a security assessment he will be sent to the Belgrade District Prison or a prison in Serbia," Malovic told journalists in Belgrade on Tuesday, Beta news agency reported. She voiced satisfaction at a speedy and efficient response by Croatian Justice Minister Drazen Bosnjakovic, who signed a decision on Kalinic's extradition during the day. Malovic reminded that Croatia and Serbia have signed a contract on the mutual extradition of fugitives in Belgrade, and pointed out that this was the first instance of putting it into practice. "This is a contribution to regional cooperation in the fight against organized crime and corruption and an affirmation of Serbia's and Croatia's position that they will not be safe houses for criminals," Malovic said. Milos Simovic shot at Kalinic on June 8, at a lake in Rakitje, Croatia. Simovic was arrested two days later while attempting to cross the Serbian-Croatian border illegally. Kalinic, a member of the Zemun criminal klan, was at large since 2003, after the assassination of late Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic. Serbian courts sentenced Kalinic in absentia to 35 years in prison for the prime minister's murder. In November 2009, his sentence was commuted to 30 years. As a member of the Zemun gang, he has also been sentenced to 40 years for several murders, kidnappings and a terrorist attack. Sretko Kalinic (Tanjug)
