Minister reacts to school sex abuse case "The investigation will show what happened, but a punishment is absolutely necessary," Obradovic said. He added that this case should be a reminder that children and parents need to talk about "these topics" a lot more. Obradovic wondered if the abuse was allowed to fester because "people were unaware of the teacher's behavior towards of the children, or because the children could not muster the courage to talk to their parents". The minister said that the director of the Novi Sad school told him that "no one gave any indications of the last several years that something like this was going on, and that had a child had not spoken out, no one would have ever known about it". The teacher, identified by police as Ivan Miovic Stasni, has been remanded into custody for a period of 30 days. Novi Sad police reported earlier that he was suspected of abusing seven children. Reports on Thursday said that he had admitted to the charges. Meanwhile, Vojvodina Ombudsman Dejan Janca said that media need to make sure to protect the interest of the children while covering this case.
