Interior Minister Ivica Dacic says an investigation into 50,000 cartons of foreign cigarettes confiscated on the Serbia-Romanian border is under way. Dacic told reporters that the cigarettes, the value of which was estimated at several hundred thousand euros, were seized at the border crossing of Vatin in a joint operation of Serbian police and Customs, and that they were produced for the Albanian market. Dacic on seized cigarettes investigation Dacic said that the cigarettes did not have excise marks or bar codes, which indicates that their production was perhaps also illegal. He added that this is the largest quantity of cigarettes seized in the past few decades. According to him, the cigarettes were found in a truck with Belgrade license plates, and the whole operation was successful thanks to good cooperation of police forces in the region. Dacic added that, as of lately, the crossings on the Serbia-Romania border have seen an increase in cigarette smuggling activities.
