According to the charges Serbian police are filing against Sreten Jocic, he secured EUR 1.5mn to pay for the murder of Croatian journalist Ivo Pukanic. Daily Blic writes today that the charges claim that Jocic and Slobodan Djurovic planned the murder at meetings held in Bar, Montenegro, and that the last such meeting was held one month before the Croatian journalist and publisher was killed last fall. “Jocic secured EUR 1.5mn for murder” Jocic was arrested in Belgrade last week. In order to organize the murder, Blic states, Djurovic went to Croatia four times to meet with Jocic’s chief collaborator in the country Robert Matanic. “In 2006, Sreten Jocic with intent created a criminal group on the territory of Serbia and Croatia, the activities of which had international scope. The group included Slobodan Djurovic, known as Kardinal, Robert and Luka Matanic, Zeljko Milovanovic… With these persons, Jocic agreed on a plan to commit the murder on October 23 of last year. For this crime, Jocic secured EUR 1.5mn,” Blic published the contents of the police charges. The realization of the planned assassination of Pukanic began in mid-October of last year, when Milovanovic and Bojan Guduric, the main executioners of the murder, came to Zagreb. “Before this, the brothers Matanic and Amir Mafalani worked on observing Pukanic’s movements and preparing the crime. They met Milovanovic and Gudric in Zagreb and then followed Pukanic with them, confirming his contacts, in order to commit the murder at about 12 o’clock on October 23,” according to the report submitted to the Special Prosecutor. According to the newspaper, the police states that it has solid proof of these claims, but believes that the arrest of Jocic could solve a number of other murder cases, especially related to the deaths of mafia bosses which have held the distribution of cocaine from South America to Europe over the last ten years.
