The Trial Chamber in the case against Vojislav Seselj has decided to adjourn proceedings indefinitely, says a Hague Tribunal spokeswoman. The decision was taken by a majority of the three-member Trial Chamber, with Judge Jean-Claude Antonetti (presiding) opposing the move. Seselj trial adjourned indefinitely According to the ruling, which has still to be made public, the Trial Chamber will decide when the trial can resume at a later date. Antonetti, meanwhile, says that he will be making a statement on the details of the decision and his own individual opinion later in the day. The prosecution has already sought a suspension of proceedings once before, on January 15, just 18 working hours before it was due to rest its case, because of what Prosecutor Daryl Mundis called the Trial Chamber’s inability to “protect the integrity of the prosecution and its witnesses.“ The accused himself said at the time that he had no interest in intimidating the witness who gave testimony on January 14. The Serb Radical Party leader’s trial opened in November 2007, since which time the prosecution has complained on a number of occasions that its witnesses have been intimidated and exposed to pressure. In late January, the Hague Tribunal charged Seselj with contempt of court, after he published the names of protected witnesses in his book, together with parts of their testimony.
